Eminent Domain Abuse Nationwide
Our database plots instances of eminent domain abuse across the country and includes detailed descriptions of every project. Many condemnations for private gain go entirely unreported, so this resource represents only a fraction of the actual number of private takings nationwide. In almost every case, each pinpoint represents multiple homes and small businesses. In just one five-year period (1998-2002), there were more than 10,000 actual or threatened condemnations for private use, and in the wake of Kelo, the average annual amount of abuse tripled.
In addition to the projects, you will find an analysis of property rights in each state, as well as legislation, events, links to local grassroots organizations and much more. The Castle Coalition continues to learn of new abuses every day, which will be added to the database when verified. We encourage you to check back regularly.
